When you travel you have a few choices in lodging like a hotel, RV, hostel, tent and yurt. For fall break this year we chose a yurt. Why a yurt? A. We always wanted to be Mongolian nomads B. It was cheap C. It just sounds cool. We were going for cheap and it ended up being really cool. We stayed in Mancos State Park in CO. It was less than 10 min to the entrance of Mesa Verde and about an hour from 4 corners. Ok, there aren't any showers, but at least the pit toilets were clean and didn't stink.
We drove to 4 corners one afternoon. Holly was somewhat disappointed with it. I think she was looking for a bit more fanfare than cement and some rundown shopping kiosks. The next day we went to Mesa Verde. The kids were really excited to see the cliff dwellings. We purchased tours for the cliff palace and balcony house. Holly was the junior ranger for our cliff palace tour. She had to lead the group to the first check point and she even got a badge! Noelle was a little jealous of the badge. They did great on both tours climbing up 32 foot ladders!
So, after 3 nights in a yurt, we moved on to Moab and a KOA campground with tents! The best part of the KOA was the hot running water in the form of showers! Even the kids were ready to have a bath! We spent the next day at Arches and hiked up to Delicate Arch. After a slight detour, we made it to the arch. The kids did great. It was a great trip with good friends. And our new van was pure heaven to travel in!

I saw a yurt in Montana this summer and had no idea what it was. Thanks for the lesson:) I thought it looked like a glorified shed. Looks like a fun trip.
Hey, if you or Shawn can email me that pic it would be so nice, I was so mad at myself for not taking a pic last year- anyways my email is ashleyrosereeves@gmail.com, THANKS!
Let's start planning for next year! Brad had a good suggestion. . .maybe Great Basin National Park. Hmmm, only if they have yurts!
Chris thinks we should live in a yurt when we get back from our bicycle trip!
